Frequently Asked Questions - Changes for Spring 2022

WHAT DOES OPT OUT MEAN?
Opt out is the "standard" model of an inclusive access program, such as Access Now. No more codes. No more terminations if you do not purchase by said date. In the fall you enrolled in an Access Now course and have been assessed a course material charge (notice it is not a fee!) to your student account.
WHY A COURSE MATERIAL CHARGE VS A FEE?
We, at the Shocker Store, know no one likes the word fee. With a course material charge it provides you, the student, with the choice of opting out, thus acquiring required materials for your class somewhere else. You have until the opt out deadline to opt out of having the course material charge applied to your student account.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A STUDENT LIKE ME OPTS OUT?
When you opt out of participating in the Access Now program, your access will be terminated via Blackboard and you will be required, if you choose to do so, to find the materials on your own. The course material charge that was applied to your student account will also be refunded. Should you realize after opting out that you wish to opt in, you will have until the 100% refund date to do so to regain immediate access to your materials. This is performed by clicking a button available in the course shell until the 100% refund date.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT OPT OUT DATES BY COURSE TYPE?
  • Presession: Tuesday, January 4th at 11:59PM CST
  • 1st 8 Weeks: Monday, January 24th at 11:59PM CST
  • Full Term: Monday, January 31st at 11:59PM CST
  • 2nd 8 Weeks: Monday, March 14th at 11:59PM CST
HOW MANY TIMES CAN I OPT OUT & BACK IN?
You have the ability to opt out and back in as many times as you want until the deadline: Monday, January 31st at 11:59PM.
WHAT IF I DROP THE COURSE, DO I RECEIVE A REFUND FOR THE COURSE MATERIALS?
Yes, if you drop your course prior to the 100% refund date your previous charge for the Access Now materials will be refunded.

Courses dropped after the add/drop date are not eligible for a refund.

WHAT IF I'M ENROLLED IN A CONTINUATION COURSE, WILL I BE CHARGED AGAIN FOR THE SAME MATERIALS?
No, as long as you previously allowed for the course material charge to be applied to your account, you will continue to have access to the required materials.
DOES MY 3RD PARTY SCHOLARSHIP COVER MY ACCESS NOW MATERIALS?
Yes, if your books are traditionally covered by your 3rd party scholarship, your Access Now materials will also be covered.
I HAVE SEVERAL CLASSES USING ACCESS NOW & CENGAGE UNLIMITED, WILL I BE CHARGED FOR EACH COURSE?
No, we have a way to identify students who have purchased one instance of Access Now Cengage Unlimited. Therefore, you will only be charged for the subscription once for the semester regardless of the number of Access Now Cengage Unlimited courses you are registered in. The advantage to this is you may also use the subscription for any other Cengage course you may be taking for the semester as well. To access the materials, simply log into Blackboard and register. When you enter your other classes using Cengage, log in using the credentials you had when you registered, and your materials will be synced for future use in Blackboard. To access materials outside of Blackboard, you will need to log in using your credentials used when registering to obtain access to your Cengage dashboard.
